After a successful MOVE Roundtable in Orlando in 2023, and subsequent staff changes, it was time to reconvene a group of transit decision makers and older adults in Orange County, FL. The goal was to map mobility options for older adults, but the conversation evolved to become much more.
Mpact:LAB worked with AARP Florida to conduct a stakeholder convening focused on mobility for older adults. What began as a simple exercise to the list mobility options participants know about and use became an eye-opening discussion highlighting the key differences between awareness of mobility options, one’s comfort level using mobility options, and trip/route planning across modes. Energy in the room was high as all participants recognized how this conversation could inform changes large and small that could, in turn, improve mobility for older adults in the region.
