Janet L. Attarian, AIA, LEED AP BD + C, is a Principal at SmithGroup and has 30 years of experience with a focus on inclusive neighborhood development, urban mobility, and ecological infrastructure.� In her leadership role as Senior Mobility Strategist, she helps craft SmithGroup’s vision for transportation focused on people and planet.� She combines her technical expertise and innovative thinking, together with a commitment to inclusive, equitable development, and meaningful, public engagement to implement policy and design that improves quality of life for everyone. � In her previous role as Deputy Director for the Detroit Planning and Development Department she helped lead a series of inclusionary neighborhood plans.� Prior to this Janet was the Complete Streets & Sustainability Director for the Chicago Department of Transportation, where she led the City’s implementation of place-based, multi-modal street design. She currently helps lead the team designing the Brickline Greenway in St. Louis and the Bronzeville Trail in Chicago.� She also has provided planning and technical support for the Joe Louis Greenway in Detroit and the 30th Corridor Trail in Milwaukee and led joint site visits in Detroit and Indianapolis for all four projects.
