As SEPTA’s first inaugural Chief Equity and Inclusion Officer since December 2022, Emmanuella has prioritized the transformation of the organization’s approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion. She has focused on cultivating a paradigm shift, addressing the imperative need for cultural change within SEPTA. In response to societal challenges and drawing from her transit experience in Brooklyn, she is implementing forward-thinking initiatives to cultivate a welcoming environment for both employees and customers. In her short tenure of 15 months at SEPTA, Emmanuella has operationalized opportunities and provided guidance from the executive level to the front lines. She has spearheaded community outreach, fostering engagement on their terms, and enhancing collaboration with unions. Additionally, Emmanuella has revitalized and currently leads the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Department, strategically making key hires, mentoring staff, and reinforcing SEPTA’s commitment to diversity. Through her professional, philanthropic, leadership, and personal experiences, Emmanuella prioritizes creating a more equitable and inclusive transportation industry as well as fostering the advancement of women.� Active at the local and national levels, Emmanuella serves as member of the Equity Infrastructure Project (EIP) Committee and Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO); Board member for Women�s Transportation Seminar (WTS) Foundation; and American Public Transportation Association (APTA), Racial Equity Pilot working group. She is the founder of Journal Journey, LLC and created Journey of the Journal, an interactive learning experience designed to lead women through a self-discovery journey through the art of journaling. The intent is to rewrite the narratives and liberate personal discoveries through sharing with other women.� It is evident that through these initiatives, SEPTA has achieved a renewed culture, now centered on equity, inclusion and belonging. Through her role at SEPTA, she will continue to shape SEPTA into a more culturally competent and inclusive environment.
