Looking back on 2023 generates a lot of numbers, as evident in the infographic below. Behind the numbers are a lot of stories – of collaboration with a whole array of individuals and organizations. No doubt about it: the energy for the movement to create transit-oriented communities is the network! Thanks to everyone who’s been involved for your dedication and intentionality about leveraging transit, mobility and development projects with and for the full community.
Read on below for a few background details.

It’s been one year (and a month or so) since we changed our identity from Rail~Volution to Mpact: Mobility, Community, Possibility.
Over this last year, our Mpact:LAB program worked in communities around the country on a variety of projects. MOVE Roundtables took up such issues as revitalization of an arterial corridor and the role of a transit agency in building a regional vision. Technical assistance and facilitation focused on transit and older adults, including, in Mt. Airy, MD, the challenge of providing service across county and other jurisdictional lines, updating Houston’s age-friendly plan, and regional mobility options in central Florida with the arrival of Brightline trains.
Our biggest collaboration is always the conference. The number of prep meetings and phone calls is pretty unquantifiable, but the result in Phoenix and the Valley of the Sun was powerful. There’s just nothing quite like being together, exploring places, sharing ideas and experiences over four full days. We say it’s all about cross-sector exposure and exchange – and that seems true.
We hope everyone went home stoked! And will make plans to join us in Philadelphia next October 20-23. The Call for Speakers will open in late February. Start thinking now!
Mpact:VOICES features podcasts, webinars, blogs and social media posts meant to connect the network year round. As the infographic notes, the top Mpact podcast was Episode 63: Homelessness and Public Transportation. The next couple for most “listens” were Episode 65: Caretakers of the Public Realm (about downtown “place management” in Oakland, CA) and Episode 66: Women Who Ride Transit (about efforts in Los Angeles to learn about women’s needs and adjust transit to meet them). Thanks to all our podcast guests from 2023 for taking the time to talk with us! If you want to keep up with the latest podcast, subscribe on Apple Podcasts or I Heart Podcasts – or sign up for our e-news.
On social media, one of our top LinkedIn posts focused on transit ridership in Los Angeles. On X/Twitter, one of our top posts asked about your experience as a transit rider. The image below is from a favorite Instagram post – a video quiz about transit systems. We’re still building our audience on Facebook (starting from scratch after the name change from Rail~Volution). Please give us a like or follow.
Happy Holidays. See you on the bus or train! Thanks for being involved with Mpact!
