This fall, ACT2 capsule learning continues in Omaha and kicks off in eastern Pennsylvania.
In Omaha, after a summer series focused on equity, we’re continuing with two workshops focused on transit-oriented development (TOD). Multiple long-range transportation plans (ConnectGO, MetroNEXT, and Heartland 2050) are currently underway in Omaha. Leaders of these efforts are interested in engaging the development community to explore the future of TOD in the region.
The sessions are designed to offer a broad overview of TOD, touching on some of the underlying conditions (i.e. zoning, lender requirements) that promote successful projects as well as on demographics and workforce housing. Thanks again to our speakers: Meea Kang, Related California; Â Jacob Vallo, MARTA; Breen Masciotra, Port Authority of Allegheny County; Brooke Thomas. IndyGO; and Chessy Brady, RTD.
In October we’re kicking off two learning capsules in Pottstown, PA, hosted by the Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation.
This year, Amtrak proposed a plan to resume passenger service along the Reading – Pottstown- Philadelphia line, a route which has not carried passengers since 1981.  Stakeholders along the corridor, facing a rapidly changing future, want to delve into the implications of these changes and how they can start to take action now to play a stronger role in shaping their future.
One capsule is comprised of local stakeholders in Pottstown while the other is composed of regional representatives. We’re eager to see how the nuances of the conversations take shape with the differences in scale and perspectives involved.
For Omaha and the Pottstown area, ACT2’s capsule learning delivers both new knowledge and essential coalition building in a timely way. Next year, we’ll be offering place-based capacity building on a few different topics and layering in peer-to-peer learning among topic-based cohorts. Stay tuned for more details to come!
